Fruit Salad Recipe

The fruit salad is a popular desert made from various types of fruits, served either in their natural own juice, or with additional flavored syrups. Also called “Macedonia”, the fruit salad is a refreshing way of enjoying the benefits of a healthy nutrition, while consuming fresh and tasty fruits.


The mixed fruit salad gain popularity at the end of the 18th century and, since then, it has become one delicious and healthy treat, nowadays considered a magnificent dessert.

When served as an appetizer or as a dessert, fruit salads are also known as fruit cocktails. Fruit salads have reached nowadays a new status, that of a true liberty of fruit and other ingredient choices. A wide range of fruits, whipped cream, fruit syrups, spices and nuts – these can all be popular ingredient used when preparing a fruit salad. But other fruit variations are also available, like the Waldorf fruit salad, which contains a mayonnaise-based sauce, while other recipes include among their usual ingredients, yogurt, sour cream or even mustard.

This fruit salad recipe we’re about to discover is a layered one and it includes the following fruits:

  • 2 cups cubed fresh pineapple
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 kiwi fruit, peeled and sliced
  • 3 medium bananas, sliced
  • 2 oranges, peeled and sectioned
  • 1 cup seedless grapes
  • 1 pint blueberries

  • This recipe also includes a topping for which you’ll need the following:
  • 2/3 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. grated orange peel
  • 1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

  • Take a sauce pan and mix in it all the ingredients for the topping, except for the vanilla, and bring them to boil. Simmer for 5 minutes and only then add the vanilla. When ready, remove from fire and set aside to cool. Now take a large glass bowl and arrange the fruits (each in its layer) in the order described above, pouring topping over the layers. Refrigerate a while before serving. This layered fruit salad serves 10 to 12 portions.
